The Union Public Service Commission has issued
a notification for SCRA (Special Class Railway Apprentice) 2015 . The SCRA or
Special Class Railway Apprentice, helps candidates qualify for a career with
the Indian Railways,specifically with the Department of Mechanical
Engineering.The SCRA is a four-year programme conducted by the Union Public
Service Commission, under which selected candidates undergo rigorous training
in Mechanical Engineering.The Union Public Service Commission has a Memorandum
of Understanding with BIT,Mesra,Ranchi to facilitate proper training of
candidates.Any candidate who is a graduate or has completed Class XII, with a
First or Second Division and with Mathematics, Physics and chemistry as compulsory subjects, from a
recognized Board or University, is eligible to appear for the SCRA 2015
Examination. However,only candidates within the age group of 17-21, are eligible to appear for the SCRA 2015
Examination.There shall be a considerable relaxation with regard to this
however, for candidates belonging to the reserved category.
SCRA 2015
Selection Procedure:
The selection process for SCRA 2015 will consist of a written exam and an
interview/personality test.The written examination will comprise three papers,
to ascertain ascepts of General Ability,knowledge of Physical Sciences and
Mathematics, of candidates. Each paper would be marked out of a total of 200.
The pattern of questions would be objective in nature and the medium of
examination would be in English.A Duration of 2 hours would be given for the
completion of each paper. Candidates however, need to keep in mind that he/she
shall be negatively marked for every wrong answer.
The paper on General
ability may conclusively test a candidate's Language skills- Basic Grammar and composition; general awareness of current affairs;History, geography etc. The
paper on physical sciences has been designed to test candidates' knowledge of
General Principles & other Basic Concepts In Chemistry,Physics and
Measurement, while the test on Mathematics is primarily focused around concepts
such as Continuity and Differentiability ,Algebra, Trigonometry, Permutations and
Combinations, Differential Equations , Integral Calculus, Quadratic Equations
etc. Candidates who
successfully clear the written examination, shall be short listed for an
Interview and Personality Test.An Equal weightage is given to the Interview and
Personality test.

Application Process:
Candidates wishing to appear for the SCRA 2015
Exam, should fill-in an online Application form,which is made available on the
official website of UPSC: After the application form has been duly
filled, an application fee needs to be paid in order to complete the
registration process.The application fee can be paid by depositing a challan
/Registration Form Using SBI net banking or through Visa/Master Cards. Once the
application fee has been paid, then candidates are taken to Part-II of the
registration process. Part-II of the registration process can be completed by
duly filling in the necessary entries and uploading a scanned copy of other
essential documents that have been listed such as a passport size photograph
and a thumbnail impression or signature.For the sake of future
references,candidates should be sure to take a print out of the system
generated application.
